| Bacteriostatic Granular Activated Carbon is Activated Carbons upon which a suitable disinfectant such as silver or palladium is impregnated to prevent the multiplication of micro-organisms. |
| Bacteriostatic Granular Activated Carbon performs all the functions of Granular Activated Carbon as efficiently and effectively. Its bacteriostatic property lends advantages to the entire water purification system. The main advantages are : |
| Protects itself from being contaminated. |
| Protects ion-exchange resins and membranes downline and extends their lift. |
| Improves the effectiveness of the Ultra Violet system by removing spores and slime-forming bacteria. |
| Provides consistent treated water quality by eliminating dead bacteria load |
| Eliminates Pseudomonas. |
| Life of our Bacteriostatic carbon is thrice that of ordinary Granular Activated Carbon, because of the surface area available for adsorption is greater by a factor of 3. |
| Lower quantity of our Bacteriostatic carbon is required to fill an identical column. Its lower bulk-density compounds the above advantage by a factor of 1.45. Hence, 1 Kg. of our Bacteriostatic carbon has a direct performance superiority of 435% over 1 Kg of ordinary Granular Activated Carbon. |
| Indirect savings on labor, chlorine, inventory and downtime. Enhancement of downstream ion-exchange resin-life. |
| Also various grades if Granular and Powdered Activated Carbons impregnated with customized quantities of the disinfectant to suit specific applications are available. |
| How is Bacteriostatic Granular Activated Carbon BACTERIOSTATIC ? |
| The disinfectant Ag+ ions leach
into water from our carbon. Adsorption of Ag+ ions on the
protection surface or the gram-positive as well as
gram-negative bacteria leads to the alteration of their
protection structure. This results in the lyses of the
bacterial wall. Hence bacterial breeding is arrested. Concentration 10 ppb of Ag+ ions is enough to eliminate 106 bacteria per ml. Bacteriostatic carbon dissolves 20 ppb of Ag+ ions. FDA has approved consumption of up to 50 ppb level of silver per kg of body weight per day. The presence of Ag+ ions does not allow the replication of bacteria. The water treated thus can be stored indefinitely in a enclosed condition. If exposed, upon enclosure, it is bacteria-free again in 35 minutes. Silver is removed at the ion-exchange stage or at the double-distillation stage and remains at the bottom. |

|
|
| Consequances of Bacteria Leakage : |
| Reduced life of membrance systems due to clogging with slime. |
|
Reduced life of many ion-exchange resins, especially anion-echangers which are irreversible fouled. |
|
Increased possibility of microbial content in treated water. When stored, the microbial content multiplies further. |
